Book Summary: TED Talks: The Official TED Guide to Public Speaking by Chris Anderson

Posted on March 20, 2019April 10, 2022
Topics: Self-Help / Career

Rating: 7.0/10.

I got this book in an effort to improve my public speaking. It provides a bunch of tips on giving talks; the majority of it was either too vague to be useful or very obvious, but some of it was interesting, like the chapters on visuals and stage setup.

The problem is this book teaches you to emulate TED talks, which are aimed at normies and provide quick inspiration to “change the world” in some way. I feel they often oversimplify complex issues and are more style than substance. Most of the advice don’t really apply to more technical talks to a sophisticated audience, which is what I’m trying to get better at. Also, it doesn’t provide much advice on how to get better at various things, other than practicing a lot.
